Is a trilogy 

Don Vitto Corleone is a mafia boss, and he gets the opportunity to get into the drug business. Opportunity he rejects, because you do not agree with that business. From that moment begins a kind of war between the "families". Don Corleone is shot and sent to hospital in serious condition. This ago that the younger Michael reaches home to support his family.

From this point, the film is split between the war of families in the U.S. and Michael's life in Italy. Don Vitto goes out of business and leaves him at the helm.

After the death of his father, Michael is dedicated to revenge on all those who betrayed and   made damaged his family, including his brother.

The film ends with Michael becoming completely in the new Don Corleone.

the second and third part deals with the life of Michael in charge of business being a replica of his father being cold and calculating

All three parts are good I recommend seeing it
